Mobile County health officials: Residents near Twelve Mile Creek use caution after reported overflow

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Mobile County Health officials are urging residents to take precautions after a Sanitary Sewer Overflow on Thursday.

WHAT WILL REPLACE THE MOBILE CIVIC CENTER

According to a press release, Mobile Area Water & Sewer System responded to a Sanitary Sewer Overflow on March 14 from a manhole at 110 Long Street (behind One Ten Student Living apartments).

INCIDENT LOCATION:

Officials say approximately 450 gallons of wastewater overflowed into Twelve Mile Creek after a grease blockage on the main line.

Dr. Kevin Philip Michaels, the health officer for Mobile County, advises area residents to take precautions when coming into contact with standing water.

Health officials say anyone who has come into contact with untreated sewage is advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly. Officials also urge residents to take precautions when using Twelve Mile Creek for recreational purposes after the overflow. All seafood harvested in the area should be thoroughly cooked and people should wash their hands after cleaning seafood and before preparing food.
