MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The city council gets a late start with a rare afternoon meeting to go over a much anticipated report about the police department itself.

It’s rare to have this much of a public fight among members of the Stimpson administration. Today we’ll get a better idea of what the police department may need to fix. First up will likely be Kenyen Brown’s report. Council members meet at 1 to discuss matters related to the report in a closed session, then the regular meeting starts at 3 this afternoon.

On the council’s agenda are votes on whether to open an investigation into allegations made by outgoing Mobile Police chief paul prine. He’s claimed that the city has made improper attempts to control or run the police department, the city didn’t address his grievances, and that’s been silenced by city officials.

Also on the agenda is a resolution to terminate Paul Prine as Police chief. Last week Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson says he welcomes an investigation but believes the council should vote on termination separately and first.

There’s a chance neither of the items will be voted on today. They are both new resolutions being introduced for the first time so they may be automatically held over for at least one week. A spokesperson for the council says it’s unlikely they will take action today.
