MMH achieves Level 2 Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation
May 8—MIDLAND — Midland Memorial Hospital has achieved the Level 2 Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation. The American College of Emergency Physicians, with support from The Gary and Mary West Health Institute and John A. Hartford Foundation, implemented the Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA) program to recognize those emergency departments that provide excellent care for older adults.
This makes the MMH Emergency Department the second-highest rated GEDA facility in the State of Texas and the only one in the Permian Basin to earn the achievement.
The GEDA program promotes the goals of providing quality care for older adult patients. These include enhanced staffing, education and geriatric-focused policies and protocols, including transitions of care, quality improvement, outcomes, and more efficient preparation of the treatment area.
The voluntary GEDA program, which includes three levels similar to trauma center designations, provides specific criteria and goals for emergency clinicians and administrators to target. The accreditation process provides more than two dozen best practices for geriatric care, and the level of GEDA achieved depends upon how many of these best practices an emergency department is able to meet.
Seniors who visit emergency departments accredited by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) can feel confident that they will receive high-quality care. The accreditation confirms MMH has the necessary expertise, equipment, and team members to provide optimal care for geriatric patients.
MMH is led by a remarkable team of inter-disciplinary leaders and the accreditation signals the continued focus on the highest standards of care for our communities' older adults.
