PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A jury is deadlocked on racketeering conspiracy charges against a reputed Philadelphia mob boss and two associates, the main charge in a gambling and loansharking case.
Three other associates were convicted of it Tuesday, while the jury acquitted a fourth.
The federal jury convicted reputed underboss Joseph "Mousie" Massimino, reputed mob soldier Damion Canalichio and reputed mob associate Gary Battaglini of racketeering conspiracy.
It deadlocked on the charge for reputed mob boss Joseph "Uncle Joe" Ligambi, his nephew George Borgesi and Anthony Staino Jr. The jury acquitted Joseph "Scoops" Licata of the charge.
It either acquitted or deadlocked on the eight remaining counts against Ligambi. The jury acquitted Staino and Borgesi of many of the underlying counts.
Jurors are being asked if further deliberations would help resolve the deadlock on the remaining unresolved counts.
