Missouri woman charged with orchestrating lottery ticket scheme

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A federal grand jury indicted a Mt. Vernon woman Wednesday for allegedly leading a conspiracy to buy nearly 2,000 lottery tickets with stolen credit cards.

In the two-count indictment, Amy Young, 31, is charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of wire fraud. The indictment alleges Young obtained stolen credit cards and used those to purchase tickets from a Phillips 66 gas station in Joplin between July 22 and August 18, 2022.

Authorities say Young’s conspiracy involved the help of others who would contact the Missouri Lottery Commission to retrieve cash prizes for winning tickets. Investigators say at least 1,957 Missouri Lottery tickets were bought throughout the scheme via stolen credit cards – a value of over $62,000. Young and her co-conspirators reportedly received over $54,000 in prizes.
