Missouri murder named one of ‘Snapped’ most shocking cases

TROY, Mo. — “Snapped” is set to air its 33rd season this Sunday, leading up to its 20th-anniversary special. In anticipation of the two-hour special, the TV channel Oxygen True Crime has released a list of the “Most Shocking Cases Ever Seen on Snapped,” one of which features a Missouri killer, Pam Hupp. Hupp is charged with the murder of Betsy Faria, who was found dead in her home 2011.

Hupp is currently serving a life prison sentence in another case—the 2016 murder of Louis Gumpenberger, a man with disabilities. St. Charles County prosecutors believe she committed the 2016 murder deflect attention from Betsy’s murder.

Hupp came under suspicion for Betsy’s murder due to financial gains and her proximity to the crime scene. Her conviction for Gumpenberger’s murder prompted authorities to reevaluate her involvement in Betsy’s case.

Which major cities share latitudes or longitudes with St. Louis?

Now that Hupp is charged with Betsy’s murder, prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, which could add further delays. But Russ Faria, Betsy’s husband, says he’s okay with it.

He explained in a FOX Files report that, “There are certain monsters in this world that need to be destroyed, people that are evil. You can name people like Charles Manson or John Wayne Gacy or Jeffrey Dahmer and you can throw Pam right into that mix.”

There has been many reasons for delays in Pam Hupp’s latest case since she was charged in 2021. Pam Hupp’s defense attorney died of a heart attack in 2022. Then, in 2023, the prosecutor was concerned about changing the venue to three and a half hours from here. He refiled the case so that impacted families and witnesses wouldn’t have to travel so far.

In April Hupp’s attorney said they’ll skip a preliminary hearing and have the case assigned to circuit court for trial. Prosecutors are hoping for that trial to begin in the summer of 2025.
