Missing Overland Park man found dead in the woods at Clinton State Park

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has found a missing 53-year-old Overland Park man dead at Clinton State Park.

According to officers, around 5:40 p.m. Sunday, dispatchers received a call from a hiker walking a trail off of Clinton Overlook Park, saying they saw a person in a heavily wooded area.

When officers arrived, they found someone dead who matched the description of 53-year-old David Kyle Kempker.

Deputies had searched Clinton State Park extensively after finding Kempker’s car in the park on March 20. They found his car 24 hours after he was reported missing to the Overland Park Police Department.

An investigation is ongoing as the coroner’s report is pending.
