Missing man’s remains found in Overland Park, Kansas: police

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police recovered the remains of a possible missing man on Monday afternoon in Overland Park, Kansas.

According to the Overland Park Police Department, the remains were found in a wooded area in the 11400 block of West 167th Street near Arthur and Betty Verhaeghe Park.

OPPD posted on Facebook that, while cleaning debris, local park volunteers found a backpack near one of the walking trails. Inside, identification of an Overland Park man missing since May 2023 was found.

On Monday afternoon, around 12:15 p.m., an OPPD search team discovered the remains near the backpack.

According to the Facebook post, the case is being investigated by the Johnson County Park Control, Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office and the OPPD.

Officers and medical teams are working to positively identify the remains before revealing the man’s name, the release said.
