Missing Dartmouth College Student, 26, Found Dead in Connecticut River: 'Exceptionally Gifted'

Kexin CaiA missing Dartmouth College student was found dead in the Connecticut River after a days-long search.
Kexin Cai, 26, of West Lebanon, New Hampshire, “was last seen in the area of Drake Lane” on Wednesday, May 15, according to the Lebanon Police Department.
Cai was officially reported missing on Friday, May 17, according to Boston.com.
A fisherman told police he found a body along the Connecticut River in Windsor, Vermont, at about 4 p.m. on Monday, May 20, according to FOX affiliate WFXT and CBS affiliate WCAX.

The body was brought to shore shortly after 5:30 p.m., and eventually identified as Cai, WFXT and ABC affiliate WMUR-TV reported.
Police do not suspect foul play in connection with Cai’s death.

Cai was a graduate student in the Mutual Understanding Lab at Dartmouth College, according to the school’s website.
She was a second-year doctoral student in the psychological and brain sciences department, where she researched communications challenges for individuals with autism, Dean of the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies Jon Kull said in a campus-wide email on Sunday, May 19, according to The Dartmouth.
Kull went on to remember her as "an exceptionally gifted and humble researcher" who "loved cats so much that she would sneak images of them into every poster or presentation."
Kristian Droste, Cai’s partner, toldThe Dartmouth that his partner had admitted herself to Dick’s House on Monday, May 13 for a “mental health crisis." She was later transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, which released her on May 15, the day she was last seen.
Droste previously told WMUR-TV in a statement that Cai had an “uninhibited laugh” and would often sing in another language. He also praised Cai for “her loyalty to her family and the ones she loves.”
