‘Misfits’ Remake Lands Pilot Order On Freeform

Freeform just gave a pilot order to “Misfits,” an adaptation of the British cult fave superhero drama.

According to Deadline, “iZombie” executive producer and writer Diane Ruggiero-Wright will act as showrunner should the pilot order become a series pickup. “Misfits” follows the life of a group of young offenders who are also part of a community service program. Each of them gets a superhero power after being hit by a mysterious electrical storm.

As of late, the four leads in the show have already been cast. Ashleigh Lathrop will play the role of Alicia, a spoiled, middle-class party girl. Tre Hall will give life to the character of Curtis, a talented but cocky football player. Jake Cannavale will play the role of a con artist named Nathan. The character also happens to love himself a little too much. Allie MacDonald has been cast as Kelly, a street-smart girl who has a temper.

According to TV Line, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will be executive producing “Misfits” together with the series’ original creator, Howard Overman. The original British version aired in the United Kingdom for five seasons on the E4 channel from 2009 to 2013.

Meanwhile, the original “Misfits” starred Antonia Thomas as Alisha, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett as Curtis, Lauren Socha as Kelly, Joe Gilgun as Rudy, Matt Stoke as Alex, Karla Crome as Jess, Nathan McMullen as Finn, Matthew McNulty as Seth and Natasha O’Keefe as Abbey. The series was told within 12 weeks of community service, but it is unclear whether or not the same timeline will be used for the remake.

In other news, Schwartz and Savage are also heading an upcoming series on The CW. “Dynasty,” starring Elizabeth Gillies, Grant Show and Nathalie Kelley, will premiere on the network sometime this fall. They also have a project with Hulu for Marvel’s “Runaways.”

Hall currently appears on ABC’s “Ten Days In The Valley” as Jacob Bird, John’s (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) son. He also recently recurred in BET’s “Rebel.” MacDonald most recently appeared in “Cardinal” and “Orphan Black.”

“Misfits” will follow Freeform pilots “The Bold Type” and “Siren.” Both shows were picked up to series.
