Mirren, Hopkins and Johansson in Hitchcock biopic

British actress Helen Mirren has signed on to play Alfred Hitchcock's wife.

Scarlett Johansson has signed on to the cast of Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, a behind-the-scenes drama costarring Anthony Hopkins as the director Hitchcock (The Birds, Vertigo, North by Northwest) and Helen Mirren as his wife.

Based on the non-fiction book by Stephen Rebello, the film tells the story of how one of the most influential films of all time almost didn't get produced.

The project follows how Hitchcock came to make a horror film and how he financed it when the film studios didn't want it.

Johansson will play Janet Leigh, the actress from Hitchcock's iconic film Psycho.

The film will be directed by Sacha Gervasi, who made the award-winning documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The screenplay is written by John McLaughlin (Black Swan) with author Rebello.
