Croft said in a Twitter message that he was unfairly accused of damaging a door while at Minnesota.

Croft was away from the team in September after coach P.J. Fleck said he didn’t do the right things off the field.

The boat may be rowing in Minneapolis, but it’s going to need a new navigator.

Minnesota starting quarterback Demry Croft has informed the school of his intention to transfer per TwinCities.com and it looks like neither side is wasting time in making moves.

Croft reportedly informed his coaches of the decision shortly after closing out the season with a 31-0 loss to No. 5 Wisconsin on Saturday. The quarterback wasn’t present at the Gophers end-of-year banquet the following Sunday, signaling the split has already begun.

Often splitting snaps with Conor Rhoda, Croft ultimately played six games as a starter Minnesota, going 2-4 while completing more than 50 percent of his passes just once (nine for 15 against Nebraska) to go along with four touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Croft, a former three-star recruit, finishes his career at Minnesota with 708 yards passing, 347 yards rushing and four touchdowns on the ground in 89 attempts.

As a redshirt sophomore, there’s plenty he can offer teams, and with the Gophers still transitioning to head coach P.J. Fleck’s system, along with a bevy of inexperienced receivers on the roster, now might be the best time for each side to try something new.

The Pioneer Press is reporting the Gophers may add another high school or junior college quarterback to the mix for 2018, which could help fill the void left by Croft. As of now Minnesota only has four freshman QBs roster with Croft’s departure and senior Conor Rhoda set to graduate.

The Gophers are coming off a 5-7 season that saw a 6th place finish in the Big Ten West in Fleck’s first year with the team.
