JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Coeur Alaska Inc. has released the name of a miner killed at a gold mine near Juneau on Wednesday.
The company says 30-year-old Joe Tagaban sustained fatal injuries while performing regular duties at the Kensington mine. It says the circumstances surrounding the accident are being investigated, and that the Mine Safety and Health Administration has been notified. The accident took place underground Wednesday morning.
Coeur Alaska says Tagaban had been an employee for over a year.
According to the company web site, the mine began commercial production last summer. Coeur Alaska is a subsidiary of Coeur d'Alene Mines Corp.
Kensington mine is about 45 miles north of Juneau.
