MIlton School Board to Vote on $42.7 Million 2024-25 Budget on May 21.

May 14—MILTON — The Milton Area School Board at a Tuesday night work session discussed the proposed $42.7 million 2024-25 preliminary budget with a tax increase. The final vote on the budget is scheduled for the May 21 board meeting, 7 p.m. at the high school library.

Because the Milton Area School District includes parts of Northumberland and Union counties, the amount of increase is different for district real estate owners in those counties — a 2.95 percent increase for Northumberland County and a 2.66 percent increase for Union County.

Based on the median home value in Northumberland County of $19,355, the tax will increase by $42.18. The median homestead value in Union County is $109,000; taxes will increase by $50.89, according to numbers provided by Milton Area School District Business Administrator and Board Secretary Derrek Fink.

"We also eliminated both per capita taxes. which total $15 per taxpayer per year," Fink said.

Projected revenue for 2024-25 is $40.1 million, leaving a $2.5 million deficit, which will be covered by money from the general fund.

At next week's board meeting, members will vote to approve a request to file for a public school improvement grant fund for HVA and dehumidification-related improvements at the Milton Middle School, not to exceed $6 million. The local match by the district would be $1.8 million.
