Miller considers suing Heat for $1.7 million
Mike Miller, who was waived by the Miami Heat over the summer by way of the amnesty clause, is considering suing the Heat over a scam that victimized Miller, the Miami Herald reported.
According to the Herald, Miller, who is now a member of the Memphis Grizzlies, may file a complaint in court asking the Heat for over $1.7 million in damages because the person who orchestrated the scam was introduced to Miller by a Heat employee.
Miller claims he lost $1.7 million in a scam allegedly set up by Haider Zafar, who presented himself as a member of a wealthy Pakistani family.
In his complaint, Miller says a Heat employee who is no longer with the team introduced Miller to Zafar. Zafar then used $700,000 of the money he obtained from Miller to pay for courtside Heat tickets.
Miller had asked for $700,000, plus attorney's fees, but settlement talks between Miller and the Heat have stalled. Miller now may file a suit asking for much more.
Zafar is in custody in Ohio on an unrelated fraud case, according to the report. Two other Heat players, James Jones and Rashard Lewis, were also victims of the fraud.
