Militants disguised as policemen attack political office in Pakistan, at least 2 killed

PESHAWAR, Pakistan - Pakistani police say militants have attacked the office of a senior political official in the northwestern city of Peshawar, killing at least two people.

Police officer Ahmed Khan says the militants who staged the attack on Monday were disguised in tribal police uniforms. They fired assault rifles at the office of the top political official for the Khyber tribal area. Explosions were also heard.

Police officer Mohammed Zahid says the bodies of two dead and five wounded have been brought to a local hospital.

Eyewitness Shahid Shinwari says the attack started as a van carrying prisoners arrived at the office compound. The militants tried to free the prisoners from the van. Police protecting the office retaliated. A large blast was heard from a construction site within the compound.
