Miles Morales Meets His Hero in 'Spider-Man' PS4 Gameplay Launch Trailer

There’s a pivotal moment in the latest Spider-Man PS4 video game trailer when the current Spider-Man meets the kid who might replace him one day.

Marvel Entertainment released the official gameplay launch trailer for Sony’s PS4-exclusive Spider-Man video game, which is due out in September, and right at the beginning of the 1-minute video, Miles Morales meets Spidey for the first time.

“You’re Spider-Man!” he says.

“Look, next time, leave the fighting to the pros,” Spider-Man says back.

This makes us think that Miles Morales probably tried to play hero in some dangerous situation, and Spider-Man had to swing in to save him. Spidey then thwips away to fight more crime.

The story trailer released during San Diego Comic-Con 2018 showed Spider-Man working with Mary Jane Watson and Miles Morales in some capacity, but it wasn’t clear then just how new their relationship was. This latest trailer shows them meeting for the first time, probably pretty early in the game, and the rest of the trailer is spent showcasing the many masked villains that want Spidey dead.

Miles Morales meets Spider-Man for the first time, but does Miles Morales meet Peter Parker earlier than this?

Earlier this year, Comic Book Resources revealed that Peter Parker and Miles Morales “meet courtesy of Aunt May’s job at F.E.A.S.T.” In Marvel Comics, the organization devoted to “Food, Emergency Aid, Shelter and Training” is actually a front for Mister Negative and his Inner Demons gang, something the game will also adapt. In previous trailer for the game, Peter introduces Miles to Aunt May while she’s working at F.E.A.S.T.

Are Peter and Miles friends separately, or does Miles quickly learn of Peter’s alter ego?

In the comics, Miles Morales is bitten by a similar radioactive spider and granted his own comparable powers, even taking on the mantle of Spider-Man. Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games has been tantalizingly cagey when asked whether or not Miles might become playable by the end of the game, saying in a San Diego Comic-Con live-stream that players will “find out on September 7th.”

Some pieces of footage imply that Oscorp is still messing around with radioactive spiders, so it’s possible that Miles or even Mary Jane might get bitten by the end of the game. Could that mean the game will build towards a huge revelation that involves multiple people with superpowers? We can only hope.

Spider-Man will be released exclusively on the PlayStation 4 on September 7, 2018.
