Mike Pence Will Now Pass a Rainbow Flag Every Time He Leaves His House

Mike Pence is an easy target for trolling. Indiana women flooded his office with menstrual queries after he signed Indiana's abortion bill. There are 72,000 donations to Planned Parenthood under his name. The Hamilton thing happened. But that's expected when you sign on to be the windshield for a Trump presidency: You get splattered with the bug guts before they hit the driver.

But what about when your views are more extreme than those of your boss?

The ABC affiliate in Washington, D.C. reports that Pence's new neighbors are hanging rainbow flags outside their homes in support of LGBT rights, which Pence vehemently opposes. There are at least six flags now, with more on the way.

Pence is not the only problem. Trump's rickety-IKEA-cabinet-in-process is filled with anti-LGBT nominees. According to New York, most future members of the Trump White House define marriage as between a man and woman, and those with the capability voted against same-sex marriage protections. The future Trump cabinet will also deconstruct Obamacare, which gets sexual health services to the LGBT community and bans sex discrimination in healthcare.

The best the activists could hope for in the Trump administration was reticence or neutrality regarding LGBT rights. But neutrality doesn't get politicians into Trump's inner circle.

So yes, donations to Planned Parenthood and rainbow flags do a small good for human rights. But the Trump administration will do immense bad. There's not an advocate within spitting distance of the president-elect to indicate otherwise. For the good of all Americans, that needs to change.
