Migrants, smugglers caught in mountain area near Lordsburg

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Specially trained Border Patrol agents intercepted migrants attempting to enter the country in the remote and rugged Bootheel region of New Mexico.

That’s according to El Paso Sector Border Patrol Chief Anthony “Scott” Good, who posted about the operation on his X social media account. He did not say how many people were apprehended or when the operation took place.

Members of the Border Patrol’s Tactical Unit and its Search, Trauma and Rescue Unit apprehended a group of migrants who were “attempting to conceal themselves deep in the rugged Lordsburg, NM, mountains wearing camouflage,” according to Good’s social media post.

He said smugglers were using radios and binoculars to avoid detection.

The El Paso Sector includes all of New Mexico.
