What might be the future for Colin Kaepernick after 2016?

It’s been an interesting season for Colin Kaepernick. Depending on the talking head or the network, most seem to think the clock is ticking on his current starting gig in San Francisco. 49ers fans seem split, and short of convincing play over the remaining five games, the next conversion may include his staying in the league.

As this season has wore on, conversations with Kap always, ALWAYS include his protest. Most recently, a sports journalist in Miami took issue with a t-shirt featuring the now deceased Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. Your opinion on how that interview went will vary from fan to fan. But it also highlights what some have openly wondered.

Will he keep doing both?

In a recent conversation on FOX Sport’s Undisputed, rapper Snoop Dogg sat with Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe to talk about, opine openly actually, if Colin Kaepernick can do both: NFL quarterback or “Revolutionary”.

It’s a curious question and one worth asking.

I don’t pretend to know what’s inside his head or his heart. I won’t quantify how passionate he is about his “movement” but I will wonder if under the circumstances of him not being able to start for an NFL team, if he’d put all his time into being the face for the social causes he believes in.

There is enough of a body of work to make a call on whether he is or is not an NFL starter. There has also been enough noise to make General Manager’s wonder if they want that added dynamic on their football team. While I don’t believe he’s been a “distraction” in San Francisco, others may see it differently. For instance, whether you liked or disliked Tim Tebow, he became a presence no one wanted.

I’m not conflating the two, and clearly Colin Kaepernick could be a backup in the league where others have determined Tebow cannot. What I am saying, is that’s a question he’ll have to answer if that becomes the only job being offered.

Will that be a distraction, even a minimal one that a team is OK with.

Perhaps it is.

Maybe it’s not.

As for his “Revolutionary” aspirations, well, someone like Snoop has advanced the theory that he can’t have it both ways.

That’s a decision that he may get some help making.

Especially if his job prospects aren’t to his ego’s liking.
