Midterms 2018: Lady Gaga applauds women's victories in the US elections
A record number of women are set to sit in the House of Representatives following the midterm elections – and Lady Gaga is thrilled about that.
The singer shared her thoughts about Tuesday’s election on Thursday night.
She was being honoured by the SAG-AFTRA Foundation for her philanthropic work.
Through her Born This Way foundation, Gaga has promoted mental wellness and kindness for young people.
She stopped on the red carpet to chat with Variety‘s Marc Malkin, who asked her how she felt about the results of Tuesday’s vote.
“There’s 100 women in the house and I’m really happy about that,” the singer said.
At least 100 women were projected to win House of Representative races as of Thursday morning, per CNN.
The number includes 65 incumbent and 35 newly elected representatives.
A previous record saw 85 female representatives in the House, according to the Congressional Research Service.
On Election Day, Gaga urged her followers to keep waiting at their polling stations in order to cast their votes.
