Who is the Midlands’ high school boys basketball Player of the Year? Vote now

It’s time to vote for The State’s Midlands high school basketball Boys Player of the Year.

Voting ends at noon Tuesday, March 12, and you can vote as many times you like. The winner will be announced March 12 along with our all-area boys basketball team and our staff’s pick for player of the year for the 2023-24 season.

The nominees

Alex Atkinson, Lower Richland: Senior was Region 5-3A Player of Year, all-state selection in helping Diamond Hornets to Class 3A semifinals. The Presbyterian commitment averaged 18 points, 11.3 rebounds 2.3 blocks and 2 steals this season.

TJ Bell, Westwood: Region 5-4A Player of Year and all-state selection averaged 20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists in helping the Redhawks to the school’s first region championship in school history.

Lamont Jackson, CA Johnson: Senior was Region 3-A Player of Year, all-state selection and averaged 18 points, 4.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 3.0 rebounds this season.

Izzy Macklin, Camden: Senior was all-state selection and averaged 20 points 5 rebounds and 2 steals this season.

Jayden Pretty, Ridge View: Senior was Carolinas Classic all-star selection and averaged 17 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1.8 blocks in helping the Blazers to Class 4A state championship.

Cam Scott, Lexington: Senior was Region 4-5A Player of Year, all-state selection, Carolinas Classic selection, signed to play at Texas and averaged 22 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.3 steals in helping Lexington to first state championship since 2000.

Justin Skelton, Spring Valley: Senior was Region 3-5A Player of the Year and all-state selection averaged more than 16 points a game this season

Braylhan Thomas, Gray Collegiate: Senior was all-state and Carolinas Classic all-star selection in helping War Eagles to third straight Class 2A championship. The Georgia Southern signee averaged 16.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
