Middle Tennessee State coach buys $10K worth of bowl tickets for students
Middle Tennessee State coach Rick Stockstill wants to make sure students are in attendance at the Camellia Bowl.
The Blue Raiders play Arkansas State in the Camellia Bowl on Dec. 16. With the game in Montgomery, Alabama, and a four-hour drive away, Stockstill has purchased $10,000 worth of bowl tickets for the school’s students.

According to a spokesperson for the school, students can pick up their tickets on Wednesday if they want to go to the game.
Middle Tennessee State’s last two bowl trips have been to Hawaii and the Bahamas. Those are great destinations for the team, but not so much for the fans who have to pay to travel to the game. And remember, schools are obligated to buy allotments of tickets from bowls. That’s how bowls make money, after all.
“Our students, our fans, we have to go to this game. We have to,” Stockstill told the Daily News Journal. “Because we’ve said now for two years, ‘It’s too hard to get to the Bahamas. It’s too hard to get to Hawaii. It’s hard.’ And I understand that. But now we’re four hours away. It’s on a perfect date. It’s on a Saturday. It’s a week and a half before Christmas. So there’s no excuses.”
