Middle-schooler charged for bringing gun, ammo to Hillsborough County school: HCSO

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A 14-year-old boy was arrested on Friday for bringing a gun and ammunition to his middle school, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 1 p.m., the School Resource Office and administration at Davidsen Middle School were made aware of the student having a firearm in his backpack after other students came forward about the situation.

Inside the teen’s bag was a 9mm Glock 45 handgun, a 24-round extended magazine and nine bullets within the magazine.

According to deputies, the handgun was stolen back in 2021 during a burglary in Brandon.

The 14-year-old was charged with the possession of a firearm on school property and minor in possession of a firearm.

“There is never an excuse to bring a weapon to school. School is a place where kids should feel safe and protected,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “My message to this teenager is clear: you made a serious mistake. We will hold you accountable. Thankfully, no one was injured, but this could have ended in tragedy had deputies not arrived when they did.”

This remains an ongoing investigation.
