Middle school students to attend 2024 Rogers Explorers

May 20—SOMERSET — The Center for Rural Development has selected three eighth-grade students in Boyd County to participate in the 2024 Rogers Explorers Program.

They are:

Josiah "Drew" Matthies and Stephen "Luke" Matthies, students at Ashland Middle School. They are the children of Dr. Andrew and Heather Matthies of Ashland.

Carmen Callaway, a student at Rose Hill Christian School. She is the daughter of Brad and Laura Callaway of Ashland.

The students are invited to attend the 2014 Rogers Explorers Program. About 184 Explorers will spend three days and two nights on one of six partner Kentucky colleges or universities. While on campus, they will learn leadership skills, complete a community service project and participate in hands-on learning.

Rogers Explorers is open to eighth-grade students in southern and eastern Kentucky who have a strong interest in developing their skills in leadership, team building, community service and STEM fields of study.
