MidAmerica St. Louis Airport sees growth behind new flights and amenities

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. – If you’re still planning a spring break getaway, the MidAmerica St. Louis Airport wants your business.

There’s a lot of growth at the airport recently, including new destinations and terminal expansion.

For 160 passengers inside the MidAmerica Airport on Monday morning, the renovations they saw inside of the terminal may have been surprising. Many say though, it shows the growth the airport has seen in the last few years.

Last June, MidAmerica Saint Louis Airport completed a 42,000 square foot expansion.

“You can essentially say we’ve almost doubled the previous square footage that existed,” said airport director Darren James. He was named airport director in November and hopes to use his extensive experience to bring even more growth to MidAmerica Airport.

“Most of my experience was in the department of defense, so moving to the commercial side, and learning as we were going through the expansion process, it’s been an education,” he said.

One of the newest flights offered is through Allegiant Airlines to Knoxville, Tennessee.

Other new destinations include places like Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Savannah, or Tampa Bay. The airport’s sights are now set for even higher.

“Phase four of the modification includes the building of federal inspection stations so that we can move into the international market,” said James.

Reaching new heights, they plan on beginning Phase Four of the project this spring with a targeted completion date of early 2026.

If you haven’t been to MidAmerica Saint Louis Airport in a while, you’ll also notice some new amenities that you might only expect to find at bigger airports, such as animal relief areas and a big, spacious departure lounge. They’re also constantly adding new destinations based on what passengers want.
