Michigan's graduation rates tick up: Search every district in the state

Michigan's four-year graduation rate in 2023 ticked up to 81.8%, an increase from 2022, when the rate was 81%.

The increase has state leaders optimistic about Michigan's high school students, who have struggled amid the pandemic's meteoric impact on education. The numbers, released in February, also show the four-year dropout rate in the state decreased to 8.13%, down from 8.19% in 2022. Before the pandemic, in 2019, the dropout rate was 8.36%. Rates among Black, Latino and Asian students increased, but longstanding gaps in the rates between white and Black, and white and Latino graduation rates persisted.

“Michigan’s graduation rate increased for the second year in a row and is approaching an all-time high," wrote Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in an emailed statement. "These numbers reflect the work we’ve been doing to make sure every child gets a quality education that sets them up for future success.”

The data is published annually by the state's Center for Educational Performance and Information.
