Michigan DNR to shrink reservation window for state park, rec area overnight lodging

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is changing its reservation window for overnight lodging that includes cabins at Michigan state parks and recreation areas.

The reservation window will be shortened from 12 to six months, according to the DNR website.

"We've been keeping an eye on lodging reservations for the past few years, and we've noticed that most people book within six months," according to the DNR's Michigan state parks October newsletter. "By making this shift, we also acknowledge the challenges for our customers who can't plan 365 days out. Moving to the six-month window will help make things more consistent for everyone and better plan for maintenance."

Campers in many state parks can rent a tent, tepeee, group cabin or a mini cabin, like this one at Ludington State Park.

The new booking window will begin Nov. 1 and be fully implemented by May 1. The changes will affect reservations for cabins, cottages, lodges, yurts, tiny houses, safari tents, A-frames, domes and hammock-only sites.
