Michelle Rossman will seek second term

May 14—ROCHESTER — Olmsted County Commissioner Michelle Rossman officially announced plans to seek re-election.

"It has been an honor to advocate for constituent needs and perspectives in representing District 5 during county board discussions," she said in a statement sent Tuesday morning.

Rossman was elected in 2022 as commissioner for the district that stretches west of Rochester. Her first term was for two years, due to district restructuring following the 2020 census.

The Nov. 5 election will fill the seat for a full four-year term.

The co-owner of Rossman Farms has indicated a desire to build on her first two years on the county board of commissioners.

"As a board, we have endorsed numerous programs and initiatives to enhance the well-being and safety of Olmsted County residents while maintaining our public infrastructure," she said. "My background in business, agriculture and science, coupled with a commitment to fiscal responsibility has proven to be impactful in our deliberations.

"As we address the challenges associated with steady population growth, housing needs, environmental footprint considerations and mental health services, it is crucial that we approach them with a spirit of collaboration, transparency and innovative problem solving."

She added that meeting the current needs of residents while planning for long-term projects is a challenging but achievable goal.

"I'm committed to leading with integrity, courage and strategic foresight to support a thriving Olmsted County," she said. "I look forward to continuing meaningful engagements with residents as we problem-solve together."

The filing period for county commissioner seats is May 21 through June 3.
