Michele Bachmann Faces Ethics Review
Investigators with the Office of Congressional Ethics are interviewing former aides to Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., about alleged campaign-finance violations, the Daily Beast reported.
The preliminary review centers on payments made during Bachmann’s short-lived presidential run in 2012, according to the Daily Beast. Bachmann’s attorney William McGinley, said in a statement to National Journal that, “There are no allegations that the congresswoman engaged in any wrongdoing.”
“We are constructively engaged with the OCE and are confident that at the end of their Review the OCE Board will conclude that Congresswoman Bachmann did not do anything inappropriate,” McGinley said.
The Office of Congressional Ethics acts as a grand jury for the House Ethics Committee, initiating cases and referring them to the lawmaker-run panel for further review.
