Michael Vick to be inducted into Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame
Former NFL quarterback Michael Vick will be one of the newest members of Virginia Tech’s Sports Hall of Fame.
Vick, the Hokies’ QB in 1999 and 2000, is one of five people who will be inducted on Friday, Sept. 22. Vick and the others will be honored during halftime of the Hokies’ game vs. Old Dominion on Sept. 23. In the release announcing his impending induction, VT called him “maybe the greatest Virginia Tech athlete in the school’s history.”
Vick won the team’s starting quarterback job as a redshirt freshman in 1999 and the Hokies ripped off an 11-0 regular season. Tech made it to the Sugar Bowl and lost 46-29 to Florida State for the national title. Vick was 105-182 passing for 2,065 yards that season and also ran for 682 yards. He finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting.
He played in 10 games in 2000 and rushed for over 600 yards and threw for over 1,200. He still finished sixth in the Heisman voting.

Vick was the No. 1 overall pick of the Atlanta Falcons in the 2001 NFL draft. He took over as the Falcons’ full-time starter in 2002 and was the team’s QB through 2006.
Vick missed the 2007 and 2008 seasons after he was suspended from the league while serving time in prison on dogfighting charges. He returned to the league in 2009 with the Philadelphia Eagles and played in Philly through the 2013 season. He spent the 2014 season with the New York Jets and played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2015.
After spending the 2016 season out of football, Vick and former Atlanta teammate Roddy White retired as Falcons earlier this year.
