After canceling a series of public appearances and staying out of the spotlight during his 3-year-old son's battle with cancer, Michael Bublé made his first public appearance since November earlier this week.

The Canadian singer, 41, was honored at the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards in Ottawa on Wednesday night, and delivered a heartfelt speech after receiving the National Arts Centre Award, according to The Canadian Press. The singer became emotional while thanking fans, friends, and loved ones for their support during a difficult time for his family.

"I stand here truly humbled that I have been allowed to be one of your musical representatives and that you would choose to bestow this honor upon me during what has been an emotionally difficult time for my family," Michael said while addressing the audience. "I thank you for the love and support that you've given me and for the pride I'm filled with every single time I'm able to stand on a stage and say, 'My name is Michael Steven Bublé and I am Canadian.'"

The father of two sons, Noah, 3, and Elias, 17 months, also thanked his wife and family in his speech. "My entire life has been inspired by how my family has made me feel-my wife, my children, my parents, my sisters," the singer said. "There are no words to describe how I feel about you. Sometimes, 'I love you' just isn't enough because what I feel is just so much more."

The singer revealed his son's cancer diagnosis to fans on Facebook in November 2016, and then shared an update on his condition in February. "We are so grateful to report that our son Noah has been progressing well during his treatment and the doctors are very optimistic about the future for our little boy," Michael and his wife Luisana Lopilato said in a statement. "He has been brave throughout and we continue to be inspired by his courage. We thank God for the strength he has given all of us."

Luisana shared another update with fans while promoting her film Those Who Love, Hate in April. "My son's recovery is a long process as you all know and he has to continue with check-ups," she said. "But we are very happy. We are looking forward to thinking about the future, to seeing our children grow. Out of respect I would like to thank people for their support, for the many prayers they said-for their love. I would like them to know and tell them that everything reached me and that it helped us a lot to get through this."
