Mich. Woman Allegedly Shot by Ex Had Filed Protective Order: 'He Was Going to Kill Me'

Woman Allegedly Shot by Ex Had Filed Protective Order

A Michigan woman is in critical condition after her ex-boyfriend allegedly shot her Tuesday evening — months after she filed a protective order alleging he was physically abusive and had vowed to kill her, according to multiple reports.

According to the Muskegon Chronicle, Linda Jamerson filed two petitions seeking protective orders against Jaraun Render, the man accused of shooting her Tuesday night as she sat in a vehicle in the parking lot of a convenience store in Muskegon.

The first petition was filed on Aug. 1, WZZM reports; Jamerson’s request resulted in a court order barring Render from having any contact with Jamerson. But when he allegedly violated that order, a second petition was filed on Oct. 9.

Render spent more than two days at large before being detained at about 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon in Grand Rapids on charges of assault with intent to murder, carrying a concealed weapon, and other felony firearm charges.

Render has not entered a plea to the charges and does not have an attorney of record who could comment on his behalf.

I am afraid that Jaraun is going to hurt me when he gets a hold of me,” the Muskegon Chronicle claims Jamerson wrote in the August petition, adding she felt like Render was allegedly stalking her.

She also wrote, according to the paper: “Jaraun [allegedly] picked an argument with me, and began to beat me up. He pulled my hair and dragged me all over the room. Jaraun repeatedly hit me in my face. He then (began) to tell me that he was going to kill me. At that point, I really (felt) like I was going to die. He has done this to me a lot of times and I am afraid of him.”

Jamerson further alleged Render threatened to break her neck, according to the Muskegon Chronicle.

Police allege that Jamerson’s three children were in Render’s car at the time of the shooting. sparking a brief AMBER Alert Wednesday, according to a statement from officials. The children were eventually found safe in Render’s abandoned car.

In the second request, the Muskegon Chronicle reports Jamerson alleged Render followed her to a gas station and refused to leave until employees threatened to call 911. She also alleged he used his car to block hers the following day, and tried to get inside her car.

The first protective order was effective through May 2018, according to WOOD TV8.

PEOPLE’s efforts to reach Jamerson’s relatives were unsuccessful Friday.
