The trade deadline is looming and almost all NFL teams are quickly deciding what there next move may be. While those smack in the middle of a playoff run may not make any moves, those near the top and bottom will definitely be making some trades in the coming week. For the Miami Dolphins, there is one option that could be an intriguing one for the team.

Trade defensive end Cameron Wake. Rumor has it the Dallas Cowboys are interested in the pass rusher and I think it’s time to let Wake go. With another two years past this season on his contract, Miami could also shed some money while not losing much in the way of production. After all, Wake only has three sacks and is a part time player right now.

In return, the Dolphins could probably expect a fifth or sixth round draft pick, more than enough compensation for a 34-year old who has another two and a half years on his contract. It’s a win-win for Miami. Sending Wake to Dallas would also allow for the Dolphins to get a better picture of their defensive line for the future.

Right now, Wake is out on the field during passing downs. Without him, the likes of Andre Branch, Jason Jones, and Terrence Fede can get more looks with the first team defense. The biggest win out of this could be Branch, a player that has been playing well and under the radar for the majority of this season.

The move would also shed some dead weight in terms of money from the salary cap, something that would definitely help the Miami Dolphins out during the upcoming offseason. With Wake out of the salary cap, his absence would free up seven million in 2017 and almost eight million in 2018.

That is obviously enough money to bring in a young player or two. It is also enough to maybe bring in another veteran to play along the defensive line. The possibilities for that extra cash are endless. With Cameron Wake not getting any younger and his production beginning to decrease, the Miami Dolphins should listen to the Cowboys offer at the minimum and potentially even make a deal.

It would be for the benefit of Cameron Wake as it gives him a chance to win now and it would benefit the Miami Dolphins in terms of the present and future. That’s what I call a win-win.
