Coming in as severe underdogs against the Seattle Seahawks, the Miami Dolphins suffered what can only be described as a heart breaking loss against Seattle, dropping the contest by a final score of 12-10. The killer blow came with less than a minute remaining in the game as Russell Wilson found Doug Baldwin in the endzone to give the Seahawks the game-winning score.

Despite the loss there are both things to be proud of and areas to work on in the next week. Possibly the most joyous part of the game was watching the Dolphins defense hold back the Seattle offense for the first 55-minutes of the contest. Sacks, tackles for losses, and forced turnovers all were created by a strong defensive effort.

Getting too and hitting Russell Wilson a total of nine times during the contest, the Dolphins brought the pressure all game long, sacking Wilson three times and creating three tackles for a loss. Add to that the forced fumble and interception the team caused Wilson to commit and the unit had a great night of work overall.

However, the bad news from this game is that Miami could have and should have won this game. Midway through the third quarter, kicker Andrew Franks had his 27-yard field goal attempt blocked, taking three points off the scoreboard. The other play was the sure touchdown catch that a wide-open Kenny Stills dropped. Don’t believe me, the video is below and will certainly make this week’s Not Top Ten.

That said, the game was not lost by these two plays either. Overall, the offense was a disappointment. The offensive line we believed to be much improved entering this season allowed Ryan Tannehill to be pressured quite a bit with Tannehill being sacked a whopping four times by the Seahawks defense.

While I do respect the talent presented on the Seahawks defense, the Miami offense consistently missed their opportunities throughout the contest. It would be hard to pin the problems on any one player as the issues were more of collective failing from the offensive unit as a whole.

Next week will not be any easier. Though the Dolphins are taking on an easier defense, they are playing in New England. Against a division rival anything can happen. If the offense improves and the defense holds firm, Miami will have there best shot in years at winning a game in New England.
