Still dealing with the hole left by the injured Reshad Jones, the Miami Dolphins made a move yesterday to help stabilize their ailing secondary. Working out three veteran players, the Dolphins signed Bacarri Rambo on a one-year deal. Rambo has played the last three seasons with Washington Redskins and the AFC East rival Buffalo Bills.

Spending his rookie year with the ‘Skins, Rambo appeared in eleven games for Washington with three starts. Recording a solid 43-tackles for his time on the field during that rookie season, Rambo was later waived by Washington after two games in 2014. Picked up by the Bills, Rambo would go on to make 17-appearances over the next year and a half.

The move by the Dolphins comes on the heels of Arian Foster’s retirement which freed up a roster spot for the move. Playing in place of Jones last week was Michael Thomas. Despite starting games a year ago before being moved to the backup role, Thomas was a little slow and showed little chemistry with fellow safety Isa Abdul-Quddus.

Coming to Miami, I doubt we will see a lot of Rambo at the start of his tenure. He hasn’t played at all since leaving the Bills and he will need time to acclimate himself to the system in Miami. However, his addition does add depth and competition for Thomas. Is Thomas fails to improve or gets injured, Miami can at least now say that they are somewhat prepared for such a situation.

Without much background about Rambo, I really don’t know what type of move this really is. Sure, it adds depth, but is there more to the story for the Dolphins coaching staff. With Rambo’s past as a role player, I would inclined to see him as a depth addition and one that cost the Miami Dolphins very little.

No players had to be cut, no one had to be traded, and the contract is only a one-year deal. For me, this is a win-win. Bacarri Rambo has shown talent at times and can contribute when called upon. His deal makes him one to watch for the Dolphins. Should Thomas struggle for the remainder of this season, Rambo could see this as his try-out for the backup role next season.
