I remember numerous times where the Miami Dolphins would be in the red-zone and for whatever reason something adverse would happen. Either there would be a bad snap from the center, the quarterback and receiver were not on the same page, or the offensive line just couldn’t hold up against the defensive pressure.

These problems were especially evident last season when the Miami Dolphins were ranked 30th in the NFL in third-down conversions and 27th in scoring. The scoring problem becomes even worse when you learn that the Dolphins averaged less than three touchdowns a game last season.

It’s really hard not to laugh or even get mad when I see these rankings. I remember when the Miami Dolphins brought in Bill Lazor from the Philadelphia Eagles and there was all this talk about our red-zone percentage increasing as well as the always promised increase in points being scored. Man how things have changed.

After the debacle that was Philbin and Lazor the Miami Dolphins went ahead and got their man in Adam Gase. When Gase was the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears their third down conversion was seventh in the NFL and 23rd in scoring at 20.9 points per game.

Now that might not look that much but it is. Remember wide receiver Kevin White was out for the year and Alshon Jeffery was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury that kept him out the whole year.

So not only did the Adam Gase not have his top weapons at his disposal in Chicago he also had to worry about the unpredictable Jay Cutler turning the ball over. and they still managed to end up 6-10. The Miami Dolphins also posted up the same record last season but with worse stats and fewer injuries.

A part of me wants to believe that the Miami Dolphins will be better this year and until I see it, I’ll reserve my opinion. For so long Miami Dolphin fans have been wanting a winner and every year we literally beg for it. Do I believe the Miami Dolphins will be better? Maybe, but I also believe that this team will go as far as Ryan Tannehill can carry them. If Adam Gase can generate similar stats with Tannehill as he did with Jay Cutler then I am salivating about what he can do when everyone is healthy.
