Wow. Most times when I’m typing these articles, I never really consider the title. After all, most of the time it is just the main point of the article and gives readers an idea of what they could see when they click on it. However, on this occasion this is something special about this title, something I never thought I would see.

The words Miami Dolphins and success in the same sentence have not gone well together over the last decade. After all, the only time Dolphins’ fans even use these words together is when they talk about teams from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. However, thanks to expected starting running back Jay Ajayi I am allowed to put those very words together in a title, even if I personally don’t believe them.

Speaking on the NFL Networks’ NFL HQ Jay Ajayi was very open about how much the team has been working on to try and change the tide in the AFC East and potentially rival the Patriots and Bills at the top of the division sooner rather than later.

“Working each day to have a season to do that and so that’s basically going to be coming in everyday to work and learning this offense. We have to do better than we did in the past. Obviously it hasn’t been good enough because we haven’t made the playoffs and won our division, so those are definitely goals that we have to achieve but right now we are going to be focusing on just the day to day until we get to those points in the season.”

Ajayi would also go on to talk about quarterback Ryan Tannehill and where he is looking to see the team’s starter improve this season. Though the above is nice to talk about now, the teams current standing in terms of skill does not present the Dolphins with a lot of skill. Age will also likely play a part this season especially along the defensive line.

While Ajayi may see the team’s work in practice as a sign of change in Miami, I just don’t know. New head coach Adam Gase should help things on offense but the overall quality of this team remains in question. Whatever the answer to that question is will ultimately determine how soon the Miami Dolphins can again challenge for playoff positions.
