Should the Miami Dolphins pursue Terrance Knighton?

As of right now the Miami Dolphins have about $12 million in cap space and they can easily go after a veteran playmaker to improve their roster. After watching the three preseason games, there’s some good and bad to go around.

Unmistakably, our secondary is hurting without rookie cornerback Xavien Howard. Tony Lippett has shown he definitely has a lot of work to do and that he’s not ready for a starting spot at the cornerback postion. However, the area also in need of some help right now is at defensive tackle, something we all know about.

Yes, we have Ndamukong Suh but other than him who else do we have that’s a demonstrative force at defensive tackle? Earl Mitchell had been on the decline.

I preferably would spend the money we gave him on someone else at a different position or a better defensive tackle. A player that could potentially fit that bill was recently released from his previous contract. Former Jaguars, Broncos, Redskins, and now former Patriots’ defensive tackle Terrance Knighton was released.

Some people say that his best days have passed him by but I believe he can still be a difference maker in the NFL. Hey, if you can’t rush the passer, then you better be able to stop the run. While playing with the Jaguars, Knighton had his best years. Was that because he was in a 4-3 defense or was he just that dominant?

If you look at his last three years in Jacksonville and his two years in Denver they are very similar. Add to this Knighton’s great year in Washington and I still wholeheartedly believe he can play in the NFL.

Now he might now be what he used to be but he still is 6’ 3″, 355 pounds and can fill gaps just by his size. I doubt that Suh would hate this signing and I’m sure our defensive line would be even better especially against the run. Let’s be honest here will Terrance Knighton take a reasonable deal or will he try to strong arm the Miami Dolphins for leverage to get another big payday? Thats the question I would like the Dolphins to answer.
