Mexico and South Korea: The newest of best friends after a World Cup triumph
Convincingly beaten 3-0 in its match against Sweden, Mexico were set to be the next team sent packing from the World Cup on Wednesday.
Then, the incredible happened.

South Korea's team, the deus ex machina, scored twice in the final minutes of the game against Germany. Die Mannschaft, as Germany's team is nicknamed, had won the last World Cup in 2014 and were favourites to win this year.
The result saw Germany eliminated from the tournament, and El Tri, as Mexico's team is called, progress to the next stage of the World Cup in extraordinary circumstances.
Suitably, the result sent Mexican fans into pure ecstasy. Outside the South Korean embassy in Mexico City, fans chanted "Corea, hermano, ya eres Mexicano," which translates to "Korea, brother, you're now Mexican."

In downtown Mexico City where the game was shown, Mexicans gave an impromptu parade for a South Korean man who just happened to be there.

Mexican fans were proudly waving the South Korean flag.
And Mexican radio was blasting music from K-pop outfit Exo. What a time.
According to reports, South Korean K-pop kings BTS also reaped the spoils of the result, with their hit single "Fake Love" surging up the iTunes Mexico chart 31 places after the game.
Plus, there were Mexican fans commenting on the songs YouTube video, all thanking South Koreans for what they've done.

"Thanks Korea, because of you we are still in the world cup. The hope of Mexico," reads one comment.
We think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
