New Mexico looking for summer reading instructors
SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico’s education departments are looking to hire hundreds of instructors for the state’s Free Summer Reading Program. The overall goal is to help 10,000 students from kindergarten through eighth grade boost their literacy skills.
“As a literacy instructor, you will equip children with important reading skills and help them gain the confidence they need to be successful in all school subjects,” New Mexico’s Public Education Secretary Arsenio Romero said in a press release. “You do not need to be a licensed teacher to become a literacy instructor, but we encourage retired educators and educators on summer break to consider joining this historic statewide literacy effort.”

Reading instructors can earn $35 per hour for a minimum commitment of 25 hours per week, the Public Education Department says. Instructors will get training before the program begins. To be an instructor, you must be available for training at the end of May or beginning of June.
