New Mexico attorney general opens complaint office for Hermits Peak-Calf Canyon issues

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico’s attorney general is looking to help New Mexicans struggling to recover from the devastating wildfires that impacted Northern New Mexico in 2022. The attorney general is doing so with a new consumer complaint office in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

“The [New Mexico] Department of Justice is here to protect consumers and those impacted by the fire that ravaged northern New Mexico,” Attorney General Raúl Torrez said in a press release. “For the victims of the Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Fire, we recognize how important it is to meet with our staff in person and how difficult it is to travel to Albuquerque or Santa Fe. We thank District Attorney Clayton for recognizing this significant need and this opportunity to work together to serve the community.”

At the office, there is an advocate ready to help victims of the Hermits Peak-Calf Canyon wildfire, the attorney general’s office says. They can help file complaints and get more information about ways to get help while recovering from the fire’s damages. More info about wildfire recovery rights can be found at this link.
