Metroplex Expo opens as shelter space

ROGERS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — An event center in Rogers has opened its doors to the community in the wake of tornadoes and severe storms hitting the area.

A Metroplex spokesperson said that the Expo Center next to the Metroplex Event Center is unlocked and open for anyone who needs shelter.

“We are here for our community. Rogers is our home,” he said.

Free soft drinks and snacks are available for now. The event center workers are working to get other things available for people.

Benton County has had more than 50,000 power outages since 2 a.m. First Responders are facing high-volume calls at this time.

No injuries have been reported in Benton County but a death was reported in Boone County. Police say they have seen minor injuries.
