MetroPCS reports 5 pct drop in subscriber base for fourth quarter
DALLAS (AP) -- Cellphone company MetroPCS Communications Inc. said Monday that its total number of subscribers fell 5 percent during the fourth quarter.
As of Dec. 31 the company had 8.9 million subscribers, down from 9.3 million in the year-ago period. The recent quarter's total includes 93,000 net subscriber losses.
Dallas-based MetroPCS, which is in the process of being acquired by T-Mobile USA, said its gross additions for the recent quarter totaled 866,000 subscribers, representing a 29 percent drop from the same period in 2011.
The number of 4G LTE subscribers more than doubled to 2.2 million.
MetroPCS shares fell 21 cents, or 2.2 percent, to $9.52 in afternoon trading.
