Mesilla Marshal’s Office continues investigating fatal shooting

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The Mesilla Marshal’s Office continues to investigate the murder of a 39-year-old woman that happened Monday, April 1 in Mesilla, New Mexico.

As we previously reported, Sheireen Aljibury, 39, was allegedly shot and killed by her husband Oscar Renee Sandoval, 59, on University Avenue, according to court documents.

A 39-year-old woman was shot and killed late Monday evening, April 1, in Mesilla and the Mesilla Marshal’s Office has identified a person of interest.

The mayor of the Town of Mesilla, Russell Hernandez, held a press conference Saturday morning, April 6 to provide an update on the murder.

Sgt. Lourdes Hernandez, with the Mesilla Marshal’s Office, gave details about the ongoing investigation.

Hernandez said that on Monday, the day of the murder, investigators recovered casings near Aljibury’a body.

On Tuesday, April 2, Mesilla Marshal’s Crime Scene investigators, under the guidance of the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office (DASO) investigator Eddie Flores, processed Sandoval’s recovered Ford Explorer. One bullet hole through the right passenger side was discovered, Hernandez said.

Hernandez said the processing of the vehicle is continuing.

On Thursday, April 4 and Friday, April 5, investigators returned to the crime scene to conduct searches for any evidence. A spent bullet was located in the ground, Hernandez said.

Hernandez said the bullet was collected as evidence and will be submitted to the New Mexico Department of Public Safety Lab in Santa Fe.

The Mesilla Marshal’s Office continues to receive tips of sightings of suspect Sandoval. Hernandez said investigators are carefully reviewing each tip.
