Mescalero man found guilty of strangling his wife

Fulton Potter pleaded guilty to attempting to strangle his wife in 2023 and is awaiting sentencing.

Potter, from Mescalero, admitted to the crime, according to his plea agreement.

The name of the woman was not released to the media. She was identified only as 'Jane Doe' in the criminal complaint against Potter.

In the complaint, the woman said Potter also headbutted and slapped her.

The Alamogordo Daily News contacted Potter's defense attorney, Rachael Anne Sutherland, but did not receive a response as of the publication of this article.

A sentencing hearing has yet to be scheduled but Potter could receive supervised parole or probation and face a fine.
