Meridian Township Supervisor to resign on May 9

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Meridian Township Supervisor Patricia Herring Jackson has submitted her resignation to the Township Board.

Her resignation becomes effective May 9, 2024. Her letter does not explain why she was resigning from the position. Jackson did not return a message left on her home number Monday afternoon.

Since August, Jackson has been at the center of a controversy involving now-former Township Manager Frank Walsh. She was one of two elected officials first briefed on complaints against Walsh in August 2023.

She was not present at deliberations on April 16 and 17 regarding Walsh’s fate. However, she was present in a special meeting of the Township Board on Sunday, April 22. During that meeting, a resignation deal with Walsh was struck costing Meridian taxpayers more than $216,000.

Jackson was appointed to serve in the position of Supervisor in 2022, following the sudden death of Ron Styka that year. She was retained by voters that same year. She did not file for re-election this year.

Before her appointment, she served on the Meridian Township Planning Commission from 2000 to 2016. She was elected as a Trustee in 2016 and re-elected in 2020.
