Mercer County Schools Excess Levy up for vote in May primary election

PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) – Mercer County residents have the chance to vote on something that has been in effect for 60 years.

The Mercer County Schools Excess Levy must be approved by the community before going into effect. The Excess Levy total is over $15 million.

If approved, it will support extracurricular activities, public libraries, health services, and more.

Progress update on Timberwood Elementary School

Edward Toman, Superintendent of Mercer County Schools, said the excess levy supports all students.

“It’s about our kids, it’s about progress, it’s about taking care of Mercer County. I think there are ten counties in West Virginia, maybe up to fourteen that have a very low excess levy…maybe five percent. This is a one hundred percent levy,” said Toman to 59News.
