Men of Tomorrow to honor graduating seniors at Oak Ridge banquet

The Men of Tomorrow Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1990, is hosting its annual banquet on Friday, May 31, at the Doubletree in Oak Ridge, to honor the graduating seniors and participants who have been involved in the program.

The Men of Tomorrow Program provides mentoring for male and female students in the sixth through 12th grades. The program focuses on developing a positive self-image, providing positive role models, and encouraging academic achievement, career development, and cultural development through monthly meetings. The program is free for participants and has provided more than $160,000 in scholarships since its inception, according to a news release.

In addition to scholarships, the Foundation also provides laptop computers to graduating seniors who have been accepted by and committed to a college and who meet the minimum requirements. To date, 154 laptops have been awarded to graduating program participants.

The keynote speaker for the event is Terry McDaniel, a University of Tennessee alumnus and former NFL player. McDaniel, who was the ninth overall player chosen in the first round of the 1988 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Raiders, played with the Raiders for 10 years and with the Seattle Seahawks for one year. He has earned numerous accolades throughout his career and is a dedicated member of Children of God Ministries in Knoxville.

The Master of ceremonies for the evening is Justin N. Thompson, a Men of Tomorrow alumnus. Thompson, a graduate of Rhodes College in Memphis, was recently inducted into the Rhodes College Hall of Fame. He will be attending graduate school at Georgetown University this fall.

In addition to completing the program, then graduating seniors amassed impressive scholastic, athletic, and extracurricular distinctions. The Men of Tomorrow banquet promises to be an inspiring event, celebrating the commitment and achievement of these young men and women and their bright futures.
