Memphis weather: Damaging winds and severe storms expected across Mid-South

The Mid-South is expected to get hit with severe storms this afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service office in Memphis says numerous severe storms are expected today, beginning around 4 p.m. and picking up about 7 p.m. tonight.

There is a strong likelihood for damaging winds to occur during this time period. There is also a small chance for tornadoes to occur. Storms in the area are predicted to be isolated but intense.

"Severe weather chances begin to increase this afternoon. Damaging winds and large hail are the primary threats. A secondary round of severe storms is anticipated this evening, but confidence is low due to arrival time and atmospheric stability," the forecaster's discussion from the National Weather Service stated.
